{"id":969,"date":"2022-12-12T10:40:51","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T14:40:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/davichoops.com\/site\/?p=969"},"modified":"2022-12-12T10:40:53","modified_gmt":"2022-12-12T14:40:53","slug":"fusion-nuclear-rentabilidad-energetica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davichoops.com\/site\/fusion-nuclear-rentabilidad-energetica\/","title":{"rendered":"Fusi\u00f3n nuclear = rentabilidad energ\u00e9tica"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El 8 de agosto de 2021 los t\u00e9cnicos del&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xataka.com\/investigacion\/fusion-nuclear-pisa-acelerador-este-punto-no-se-anota-iter-se-queda-fusion-mediante-confinamiento-inercial\">experimento NIF<\/a>&nbsp;(<em>National Ignition Facility<\/em>) del Laboratorio Nacional Lawrence Livermore, situado en California (Estados Unidos),&nbsp;<strong>lograron generar 1,3 megajulios<\/strong>&nbsp;durante una \u00ednfima fracci\u00f3n de un segundo. Este resultado fue muy importante en su momento debido a que coloc\u00f3 a la estrategia que aboga por el confinamiento inercial un paso m\u00e1s cerca de la rentabilidad energ\u00e9tica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Y es que el confinamiento magn\u00e9tico utilizado por&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xataka.com\/investigacion\/reactor-fusion-nuclear-iter-pieza-a-pieza-asi-funcionara-mayores-obras-ingenieria-creadas-hombre-1\">ITER<\/a>&nbsp;no es la \u00fanica forma de llevar a cabo la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xataka.com\/energia\/fusion-nuclear-asi-funciona-tecnologia-que-aspira-a-resolver-nuestras-necesidades-energeticas-2\">fusi\u00f3n nuclear<\/a>. A diferencia de este \u00faltimo, el confinamiento inercial no recurre a un campo magn\u00e9tico de una potencia enorme para confinar el plasma a alt\u00edsima temperatura en el interior de la c\u00e1mara de vac\u00edo; utiliza una peque\u00f1a bola de deuterio y tritio y consigue que implosione s\u00fabitamente concentrando sobre ella la energ\u00eda de una gran cantidad de l\u00e1seres de alta potencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Actualmente el experimento NIF es la referencia mundial en confinamiento inercial, y, a pesar del esfuerzo realizado por los cient\u00edficos del Laboratorio Nacional Lawrence Livermore, se ha topado con un desaf\u00edo tit\u00e1nico: la dificultad para alcanzar&nbsp;<strong>la rentabilidad energ\u00e9tica<\/strong>. Pero&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/4b6f0fab-66ef-4e33-adec-cfc345589dc7\">acaba de superarlo<\/a>. Y es que dentro de unas horas el Departamento de Energ\u00eda (DOE) de Estados Unidos&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.powermag.com\/u-s-officials-set-to-announce-fusion-energy-breakthrough\/\">anunciar\u00e1 oficialmente<\/a>&nbsp;que NIF por fin ha generado m\u00e1s energ\u00eda de la que ha sido necesario invertir en el reactor para ponerlo en marcha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NIF se apunta un tanto muy importante: ha generado 2,5 megajulios<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los l\u00e1seres de alta potencia necesarios para desencadenar la implosi\u00f3n s\u00fabita de la diminuta bola de combustible utilizada por este reactor de fusi\u00f3n nuclear requieren una energ\u00eda de 2,1 megajulios. Es much\u00edsima energ\u00eda. Tanta, de hecho, que hasta ahora el experimento NIF no hab\u00eda logrado entregar m\u00e1s energ\u00eda de la que consume. El resultado que est\u00e1 a punto de hacer p\u00fablico el DOE est\u00e1 siendo revisado actualmente, pero, si se confirma, y parece que ser\u00e1 refrendado, colocar\u00e1 a esta estrategia de fusi\u00f3n nuclear en el punto de mira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Y es que, como confirma&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/4b6f0fab-66ef-4e33-adec-cfc345589dc7\">Financial Times<\/a>, este experimento ha logrado entregar 2,5 megajulios, generando por tanto&nbsp;<strong>un beneficio energ\u00e9tico neto del 20%<\/strong>. Este hito representa un paso hacia delante muy importante para esta estrategia de obtenci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda mediante fusi\u00f3n, y para ponerlo en contexto y entender por qu\u00e9 es tan relevante podemos recurrir a lo que nos explic\u00f3 Carlos Alejaldre, el exdirector general del CIEMAT,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xataka.com\/energia\/fusion-nuclear-intrinsecamente-segura-entrevistamos-a-carlos-alejaldre-director-general-ciemat\">durante la conversaci\u00f3n<\/a>&nbsp;que mantuvimos con \u00e9l a mediados del pasado mes de abril.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.blogs.es\/cf417f\/confinamientoinercial\/450_1000.jpeg?resize=640%2C346&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Confinamientoinercial\" width=\"640\" height=\"346\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En el experimento NIF los haces l\u00e1ser penetran en el interior de una c\u00e1psula de diamante por las aberturas de los extremos, provocando que el combustible se caliente y se comprima de forma s\u00fabita para dar lugar a la fusi\u00f3n de los n\u00facleos de deuterio y tritio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Este f\u00edsico espa\u00f1ol viaj\u00f3 a Estados Unidos cuando acab\u00f3 la carrera para preparar su tesis, y en ella indag\u00f3, precisamente, en la fusi\u00f3n nuclear mediante confinamiento inercial. A\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde regres\u00f3 a Espa\u00f1a para liderar el grupo de trabajo del CIEMAT responsable del dise\u00f1o y la construcci\u00f3n del reactor de fusi\u00f3n nuclear de tipo&nbsp;<em>stellarator&nbsp;<\/em>TJ-II, que a\u00fan hoy sigue en funcionamiento en las instalaciones del&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fusion.ciemat.es\/inicio\/\">Laboratorio Nacional de Fusi\u00f3n<\/a>, en Madrid. Esto es lo que nos cont\u00f3 Carlos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El confinamiento inercial es muy similar a los explosivos termonucleares, lo que ha provocado que las instituciones que respaldan econ\u00f3micamente esta investigaci\u00f3n sean mayoritariamente los departamentos de defensa de los pa\u00edses involucrados en su desarrollo, como Estados Unidos o Francia.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Una de sus ventajas fundamentales es que desde un punto de vista tecnol\u00f3gico el confinamiento inercial es m\u00e1s sencillo que el magn\u00e9tico, pero conlleva el desaf\u00edo de concentrar de forma sim\u00e9trica la energ\u00eda de los l\u00e1seres sobre la diminuta bola de combustible que aglutina el deuterio y el tritio.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aun as\u00ed, el laboratorio Lawrence Livermore parece haber dado con la tecla para\u00a0obtener buenos resultados. Actualmente est\u00e1n actuando sobre una microbola de combustible cada ocho horas, pero para demostrar la rentabilidad energ\u00e9tica del confinamiento inercial es necesario que sean capaces de actuar sobre diez bolas por segundo, y hoy no existe un respaldo tecnol\u00f3gico capaz de hacerlo posible.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sin embargo, en el \u00e1mbito del confinamiento magn\u00e9tico este apoyo tecnol\u00f3gico s\u00ed est\u00e1 disponible. No obstante, hay ideas que se apoyan en la estrategia inercial para proponer\u00a0otros m\u00e9todos de compresi\u00f3n\u00a0que podr\u00edan llegar a resolver este desaf\u00edo, pero detr\u00e1s de ellas est\u00e1n empresas privadas que no publican sus resultados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Con esta explicaci\u00f3n Carlos Alejaldre ha puesto sobre la mesa el principal desaf\u00edo al que se enfrenta la energ\u00eda de fusi\u00f3n mediante confinamiento inercial, y no es otro que la actuaci\u00f3n muy r\u00e1pida sobre&nbsp;<strong>una gran cantidad de microbolas de combustible<\/strong>. A\u00fan no conocemos los detalles acerca de la estrategia que han puesto a punto los investigadores de NIF para alcanzar la rentabilidad energ\u00e9tica, pero esperamos salir de dudas muy pronto.
